The Song & Tribute to the American Veteran
The song American Vet was first written in 1981 as a tribute to the Vietnam Veteran. Because of the Vietnam controversy for years no record company would publish the song. Then in 1991, 10 years, after it was first written, the Gulf War came about and "D" changed the lyrics to American Vet. It was picked up by Major Chord Records, an independent label, and made the music charts of Cash Box’s top 100 songs in the nation. D’s thematic style along with the lyrical content appears timeless. It makes one wonder of all the wars fought throughout our country’s history. And the sacrifice and contributions that were made by the Americans that served.
